ICC Orders Bangladesh to Play World Cup Matches in India or Face Forfeit of Points

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected Bangladesh’s request to relocate its World Cup matches, leaving the Bangladesh Cricket Board with an ultimatum.

In a significant development ahead of the 2026 ICC World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that the national team must play its scheduled matches in India or face the forfeiture of points. This decision comes after Bangladesh's request to move its matches to an alternative venue, such as Sri Lanka, was rejected.

According to reports from ESPNcricinfo, the ICC's directive is clear: if Bangladesh refuses to travel to India for the tournament, the team will be forced to forfeit its points. This move effectively dismisses any hopes of Bangladesh shifting the venues, despite ongoing tensions concerning security issues and recent developments involving Bangladeshi players.

The decision has raised eyebrows, with many observers noting that the ICC’s stance closely mirrors the position of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The situation has become more complex, with the ICC currently chaired by Jay Shah, the son of India’s Home Minister Amit Shah and a former BCCI secretary.

Cricket analysts suggest that this firm stance leaves Bangladesh with limited options, placing the BCB under immense pressure to comply with the ICC’s ruling or risk losing crucial points in the World Cup. As the tournament draws closer, this decision is expected to intensify debates over governance, neutrality, and the balance of power in international cricket, especially regarding host nations and tournament logistics.
