Protest Against Exclusion of Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman from IPL Sparks Strong Stance by Dhaka University Hall Council

In a firm response to the exclusion of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Salimullah Muslim (SM) Hall Council at Dhaka University has imposed an indefinite ban on broadcasting and viewing all types of Indian cricket matches. The decision was announced in an official notice on January 3, 2026, signed by the hall's Vice President Mohammad Zayedul Haque, General Secretary Sadman Abdullah, and other council members.

The council expressed strong disapproval of the Indian Cricket Board's (BCCI) decision to drop Mustafizur from the IPL, deeming it a significant blow to the fairness and professionalism of cricket. The hall's student representatives argued that such actions go against the spirit of sportsmanship. In response, the council has decided to halt the screening of Indian cricket matches in the hall's auditorium.

Additionally, the council advised caution in purchasing Indian sports equipment and discouraged such purchases. The hall council also urged Bangladeshi sports officials to reconsider participation in any sports events held in India, given the current situation.

The exclusion of Mustafizur has sparked widespread anger among Dhaka University students, with many speculating that other halls may follow SM Hall's lead in protest.
