Najam Sethi Challenges ICC to Prove They Are Not the 'Indian Cricket Council'

Pakistan Cricket Board's former chairman Najam Sethi supports Bangladesh's decision to boycott the T20 World Cup in India, urging the ICC to show impartiality and questioning its bias towards India.

In the ongoing conflict between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the decision to play the T20 World Cup in India, former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has shown his full support for Bangladesh's stance. Sethi criticized the ICC's role, suggesting that the governing body must prove it is not biased in favor of India, but rather a truly international entity.

Sethi's comments came during an interview with Pakistan's Geo Super. He commended Bangladesh for their firm decision to not travel to India for the World Cup, citing the legitimate security concerns and the volatile situation in India. He stated, “Bangladesh has taken a correct and strong position in boycotting the World Cup. Their decision was based on real reasons, as there are tensions and threats involved. However, the ICC failed to acknowledge these concerns and sided with India, reflecting the organization’s bias towards them."

Further criticizing the ICC, Sethi argued, "The ICC should stop taking India’s side in every issue. Other nations must now stand up as well. If this happens, the ICC will realize that it is not just the 'Indian Cricket Council', but the 'International Cricket Council.'"

The controversy surrounding Bangladesh’s decision to not participate in the World Cup due to security fears has also raised concerns in Pakistan. Last Thursday, Geo News reported that Pakistan might follow Bangladesh’s example if the situation persists. Although the PCB has not officially announced their stance, Sethi urged current PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to take a firm decision, echoing the sentiment of supporting Bangladesh's path.

Sethi concluded by saying, “Boycotting the World Cup would be a tough decision for PCB. But I stand in favor of such a decision. Mohsin Naqvi understands cricket well, and if he follows Bangladesh’s lead and decides to boycott the World Cup, I will stand by him. He should remain steadfast in that decision.”
