Over 500 Million Applications for 2026 FIFA World Cup Tickets Despite Sky-High Prices
FIFA Receives Record Number of Requests for 2026 World Cup Tickets as Fans Show Unwavering Interest
FIFA has received more than 500 million applications for tickets to the 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Despite the exorbitant ticket prices, football fans worldwide have shown no signs of diminishing enthusiasm, as detailed in FIFA’s statement released on January 14, 2026.
The ticket application window for the 2026 World Cup closed on January 13, with fans from FIFA’s 211 member nations and regions submitting their requests. The lottery-based ticket distribution will notify applicants of the outcome in the first week of February.
Beyond the host nations, countries like Germany, England, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and Colombia have shown the highest demand for tickets. The match between Colombia and Portugal on June 27, 2026, in Miami has received the most ticket applications. Following closely is the Mexico vs. South Korea match in Guadalajara on June 18, and the World Cup final scheduled for July 19 in New Jersey.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed his gratitude to fans, stating, "This unprecedented response is not only a testament to the global demand for football but also a clear message of the sport’s universal appeal."
Despite facing criticism over high ticket prices, FIFA acknowledged the limited seating capacity but reiterated the immense global significance of the tournament.
