Pakistan Cricket Board halts its T20 World Cup preparation in support of Bangladesh's security concerns regarding India.
As uncertainty continues to surround the upcoming T20 World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to suspend its World Cup preparations in solidarity with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The decision follows BCB's concerns over security in India, which have led to its reluctance to send a team to the country for the tournament.
According to Pakistani media outlet ‘Geo Super,’ the PCB has expressed full support for BCB's decision not to send the Bangladesh team to India. PCB has described Bangladesh’s security concerns as “justified and valid,” further reinforcing their backing for the stance taken by the BCB.
The PCB has also announced that it is halting all World Cup preparations for the Pakistan team until further notice. Officials from the board have indicated that if the International Cricket Council (ICC) fails to provide a dignified solution to the Bangladesh issue, Pakistan will reconsider its participation in the tournament. Furthermore, the PCB has advised its team management to have an alternative plan in place, should Pakistan decide to withdraw from the event.
Previously, on January 11, the PCB had offered to host Bangladesh’s matches in Pakistan, in case Sri Lanka becomes unavailable as a venue for the tournament. The PCB claimed its facilities are fully equipped to host World Cup matches.
Meanwhile, BCB had also proposed a group change with Ireland to resolve the issue, but the suggestion was reportedly rejected by Cricket Ireland, making the proposal unfeasible. Despite ongoing efforts by BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul to convince Irish officials, the possibility of group changes appears unlikely.
The ICC has reportedly set a deadline of January 21 for a final decision, emphasizing that no changes to the schedule or venues are possible. Should Bangladesh remain firm in its decision not to participate in India, the ICC plans to replace them with Scotland based on rankings.
