The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to kick off on December 19. As preparations for this year’s tournament get underway, one question had been circulating will megastar Shakib Khan remain among the owners of the Dhaka Capitals? At last, the speculation has come to an end. Just like before, Shakib Khan will retain ownership of the team through Champion Sports.

According to sources in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the ownership of Dhaka Capitals has been renewed under Shakib Khan’s company, Champion Sports, for the next five years. Although Shakib himself has not made any official statement, several responsible officials from the franchise have confirmed the news.

Last season marked the Dhallywood “King Khan’s” debut as a team owner in the BPL. While the team didn’t achieve much success on the field, Shakib’s presence in the stands created a massive buzz. Dhaka Capitals’ matches turned into a festive gathering of both cricket and film fans.

At that time, Shakib had promised that in the next season, his team would be “stronger, more aggressive, and ready to win.” It now seems that the fulfillment of that promise is about to begin in the upcoming season.

This year’s BPL will feature five teams: Dhaka, Rangpur, Chattogram, Rajshahi, and Sylhet. The defending champion Barishal and Khulna franchises have been dropped from this edition.

Franchise ownership details:

  • Dhaka – Champion Sports (Shakib Khan)

  • Rangpur – Toggi Sports

  • Chattogram – Triangle Services

  • Rajshahi – Nabil Group

  • Sylhet – Cricket with Sami
