Google’s ‘AI Text Prompt’ feature can turn images into videos
The Chronify
Creating short video clips from still images has become a popular capability of AI bots. This feature is already available, albeit in a limited form, in Google Photos. Now, Google is planning a major upgrade to this feature.
Technology site Android Authority reports that code in the latest version of the Google Photos app hints at the imminent addition of an “AI Text Prompt Box.”
With this new feature, users will only need to upload a single image. They can then type a description explaining how they want the video to be generated.
This will be much more user-friendly compared to the current system. Since July, experimental features in the app have offered only two options “Subtle Movement” and “I’m Feeling Lucky” where the AI automatically decides the type of animation applied to the image.
The new feature will run on Google’s older VQ-2 model. While not as advanced as the latest VQ-3 model, it can still produce impressive and entertaining videos from just one image.
Expansion of AI in Google’s apps
This move is part of Google’s recent AI-focused strategy. The company is integrating AI models like Gemini and VQ into various apps and services to expand their usability and impact.
The AI expansion is also visible in Google’s hardware products. Recently, they launched new smart home devices, including an updated Nest camera and a new Google smart speaker, all integrated with Gemini AI.
Meanwhile, OpenAI is also active in this space. The company recently launched the Sora 2 video app along with a related social network. There are also rumors about ChatGPT-powered hardware devices.
According to TechRadar, Google Photos’ new AI feature is still under secret testing, and it is not yet confirmed if it will be available to everyone. However, it is expected to be officially released soon.
