Government to Purchase 50,000 Tons of Rice from India, Costing 220 Crore Taka

The government has approved the purchase of 50,000 tons of non-basmati rice from India for 220 crore 5 lakh taka.
The government has decided to purchase an additional 50,000 metric tons of non-basmati rice from India, at a cost of 220 crore 5 lakh taka. This approval came during a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Government Procurement, chaired by Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed on Tuesday, December 30.
According to sources from the meeting, the rice will be purchased from India's M/s Bagadia Brothers Private Limited under Package-10 for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The rice will be sourced through an international open tender process.
The agreed price per metric ton is set at 359.77 USD, and the total expenditure for the rice purchase amounts to 220 crore 5 lakh 33 thousand 205 taka. The approval followed a proposal from the Ministry of Food for this rice import.
In addition to the rice, the committee also approved the import of phosphoric acid and fertilizers. Earlier, the government had also approved the purchase of rice from India, Pakistan, and Singapore in several rounds.
