Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on industry leaders to develop rocket engines used in spacecraft launches.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged industry leaders to develop rocket engines used in spacecraft launches, while also emphasizing the need to preserve Russia's reputation as a leading nation in space technology. He made the remarks on Friday.
Following his visit to China and Russia’s Far Eastern city of Vladivostok, Putin traveled to Samara in southern Russia, where he met with industrial experts and toured the Kuznetsov Design Bureau’s aircraft engine manufacturing facility.
According to reports by Russian news agencies, Putin stated that Russia remains a major force in the development of the space industry. He stressed the importance of continuously modernizing the production capacity for booster rocket engines used in space launch vehicles. This, he noted, is essential not only to meet domestic needs but also to stay competitive in the global market.
“Despite Western sanctions, we’ve achieved success in developing innovative engines—especially for the energy sector,” Putin said, referring to gas transport infrastructure and other applications.
He further added, “Even under sanctions, we’ve been able to develop several cutting-edge engines for the energy sector in a short period of time. These are already being actively used in various fields, including gas transmission systems.”
Highlighting Russia’s ongoing innovation, Putin also mentioned the modernization of the PD-26 aircraft engine, noting that it will pave the way for the development of military transport aircraft as well as a new generation of wide-body passenger planes.
