The Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka has donated 1,000 high-quality footballs to the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) as part of a joint initiative aimed at promoting grassroots football and enhancing sporting cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The official handover ceremony was held at the BFF headquarters on July 8, where Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider formally presented the footballs to BFF President Tabith Awal.

The event celebrated the shared passion for football between the two countries while highlighting opportunities for greater collaboration in sports development, youth engagement and athletic exchange.

Speaking at the ceremony, High Commissioner Imran Haider emphasized Pakistan's longstanding reputation as one of the world's leading manufacturers of sports equipment, particularly footballs produced in the city of Sialkot.

He noted that Sialkot has earned international recognition for producing premium-quality footballs and has manufactured the official match balls for several FIFA World Cup tournaments, including the 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026 editions.

According to the High Commissioner, Pakistan's football manufacturing industry has built a global reputation through its commitment to quality, innovation and craftsmanship.

He expressed hope that the footballs donated to Bangladesh would encourage greater participation in the sport among young players and contribute to the continued growth of football across the country.

During the event, officials from both sides also discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in sports through a range of future initiatives.

The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in sports medicine, organizing international friendly matches, promoting sports commerce, improving technical and coaching expertise, and facilitating exchange visits involving college and university football teams from both countries.

Both parties agreed that sporting activities can serve as an effective platform for fostering stronger people-to-people connections, particularly among young generations in Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The ceremony also featured a special exhibition match involving Bangladesh's Under-17 women's national football team.

High Commissioner Imran Haider praised the young footballers for their skill, dedication and promising talent, describing their performances as an encouraging sign for the future of women's football in Bangladesh.

He commended the progress made by Bangladesh in developing women's football and expressed confidence that continued investment in youth development would produce even greater success in the years ahead.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Bangladesh Football Federation, President Tabith Awal thanked the Pakistan High Commission for its contribution to grassroots football development.

He said the footballs would be distributed across different regions of the country to support training programs, youth academies and community football initiatives.

According to the BFF president, ensuring access to quality equipment at the grassroots level remains an important part of the federation's long-term strategy to identify and develop future football talent.

He added that the donated footballs would help aspiring players practice under better conditions while encouraging wider participation in the sport across schools, academies and local football programs.

The donation reflects the growing emphasis both countries are placing on sports diplomacy as a means of strengthening bilateral relations beyond traditional areas of cooperation.

Officials at the event noted that increased interaction through sporting exchanges can create valuable opportunities for athletes, coaches and young players while promoting mutual understanding between the two nations.

The initiative also highlights the role of football as a bridge between communities, bringing together young people through competition, teamwork and shared sporting values.

With the latest donation set to reach grassroots football programs across Bangladesh, football authorities hope the equipment will contribute to nurturing the next generation of players and further strengthen the country's football development efforts.
