Sheikh Mohammed expressed support for lifting US sanctions to help revive the country’s economy and rebuild state institutions
Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, has stressed that any proposed international stabilisation force for Gaza must remain neutral and avoid acting in favour of one side.
In an interview with Al Jazeera yesterday, following talks in Washington with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and members of Congress, Sheikh Mohammed said Doha has voiced concern over repeated violations of the Gaza ceasefire. He warned that continued breaches put mediators in a difficult position and threaten the future of the truce.
“We do not want a stabilisation force in Gaza that protects one party against the other,” he stated.
The Qatari premier added that both sides agreed to intensify diplomatic efforts to push forward the second phase of the ceasefire plan, with preparations underway for a new meeting between mediators to outline the next steps.
He said the humanitarian crisis in Gaza was a major focus of the discussions in Washington, renewing Qatar’s demand for the unrestricted delivery of aid into the territory. According to him, the fragile situation on the ground endangers the entire agreement.
On Syria, Sheikh Mohammed expressed support for lifting US sanctions to help revive the country’s economy and rebuild state institutions.
He described this period as a chance to strengthen joint efforts to support Damascus, while reaffirming Qatar’s stance on Syria’s territorial integrity and equal rights for all Syrians.
