Russia’s air defense systems have claimed to have shot down 111 Ukrainian drones within just three hours, including eight destroyed over the skies of Moscow, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The ministry said its air defense units detected and intercepted 111 Ukrainian drones across the airspace of six regions within the three-hour period. Among them, eight drones were downed directly over Moscow.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin later stated that an additional 11 drones were shot down while approaching the city.

Meanwhile, Russia’s civil aviation authority Rosaviatsia said that temporary restrictions were imposed on airspace at Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo airports in Moscow due to security concerns.

Meanwhile, on the night before a planned meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to finalize a peace agreement, Russia carried out drone and missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. At least two people were killed, and authorities said that electricity supply was cut in nearly one-third of the city.

Air raid alerts remained in effect in Kyiv for nearly 10 hours starting early Saturday (27 December). During this time, the city was shaken by Russian ballistic missile and drone attacks.

Officials said a 71-year-old man was killed in Kyiv’s Dniprovskyi district, while another person died in the nearby city of Bila Tserkva. At least 32 people were injured in Kyiv, including two children, according to city police.
