The United States has announced a suspension of its immigration process

The Chronify

The United States has suspended the processing of all immigration requests for foreign nationals following a shooting incident involving two National Guard soldiers near the White House in Washington.

US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Joseph Edlow announced on Friday that asylum decisions will remain on hold until security vetting for all foreign applicants is fully ensured. While officials can continue background checks, they are prohibited from making any final determinations regarding asylum applications.

This suspension applies to citizens of all countries worldwide. Previously, President Donald Trump had also announced a halt on accepting immigrants from all Third World countries, although no specific nations were named. This policy has drawn widespread legal scrutiny and global criticism, including from various UN agencies.

Since his second term, Trump has sought to tighten immigration, including returning many immigrants to their home countries and attempting to end automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S.
