Iran threatens Trump with ‘Maduro-style capture’ as US warship arrives in Middle East
A senior Iranian ideologue has warned that Tehran could capture US President Donald Trump, escalating rhetoric amid rising regional tensions. The warning comes as a US warship deploys near Iran and officials on both sides trade sharp threats.
Regional tensions have sharply escalated following the arrival of a US warship in the Middle East near Iran, raising fears of renewed confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
Senior Iranian official and ideologue Hassan Rahimpour Azgadi issued a provocative warning, saying Iran should capture Donald Trump in a manner similar to how Venezuela once detained political opponents, media reports said.
Azgadi reportedly made the remark in reaction to Washington’s stance on recent protests in Iran, further intensifying the rhetorical standoff between the two countries.
Earlier, Iranian Defense Ministry spokesman Reza Talay-Nik warned of a severe response if the United States or Israel launches any attack on Iran.
“Any aggression by the United States or Israel will face a more painful and final response than before,” he said.
Talay-Nik added that Iran’s military preparedness is now higher than it was during the 12-day conflict in June, stressing that any hostile action would result in a “greater defeat” for Iran’s adversaries.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry sought to downplay the military developments, stating on Monday (January 26) that the deployment of foreign warships near Iran would not alter Tehran’s defensive posture or its diplomatic approach.
Despite such assurances, analysts warn that the combination of military deployments and escalating political rhetoric significantly increases the risk of miscalculation in an already volatile region.
