Trump Only Leader Who Can Truly Pressure Israel Over Gaza: Türkiye’s Fidan

Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan says US President Donald Trump holds decisive influence over Israel and could stop the Gaza war if he chooses. He also warned against escalating tensions with Iran, urging dialogue over military action.

Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said that US President Donald Trump is the only global leader capable of exerting real pressure on Israel to halt its military aggression in besieged Gaza.

Speaking on the “On the Record” programme with journalist Hadley Gamble, Fidan said Washington’s leverage over Israel remains decisive if Trump chooses to use it.

“We believe that President Trump is the only person who can really put pressure on Israel,” Fidan said, noting that Israel has violated ceasefire agreements multiple times.

Asked about the possibility of Türkiye sending troops to Gaza, Fidan referred to statements by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, saying Ankara is prepared to do everything within its means to support a viable peace plan.

Fidan said Türkiye would be willing to participate in an international stabilisation force for Gaza, but stressed that any deployment would depend on broad international consensus.

Turning to Iran, Fidan warned against US military action, saying further pressure could destabilise the region.

“I will advise my American friends: ‘Don’t make it,’” he said, referring to the prospect of an attack on Iran.

He noted that sanctions are already damaging Iran’s economy and fuelling domestic unrest, but said Tehran remains open to negotiations.

“Stability in Iran is important for all of us,” Fidan said, adding that while Iran may prepare for worst-case scenarios if cornered, dialogue - not force - remains the only viable path forward.
