Kolkata Knight Riders secure Green for ₹25.2 Crore in record-breaking auction bid
Australia all-rounder Cameron Green has set a new record as the most expensive overseas player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. At the 2026 IPL auction, Green was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹25.2 crore (£2.1 million), surpassing the previous record of ₹24.75 crore paid by KKR for Australian pacer Mitchell Starc in 2024.
The successful bid followed a bidding war with Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, marking Green as the third most expensive player in IPL history overall. Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant currently holds the record for the highest IPL auction price at ₹27 crore (£2.54 million), followed by India’s Shreyas Iyer at ₹26.75 crore (£2.51 million).
Green, 26, has previously played for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, where he has scored 707 runs at a strike rate above 150 and taken 16 wickets in 29 matches. Though he was listed as a capped batter, Green clarified that he will be available as an all-rounder, citing a mix-up by his management.
Despite past back injuries that kept him out of the 2025 IPL, Green is now playing as an all-rounder in Australia’s ongoing Ashes series against England.
