BFF confirms progress on documentation as 21-year-old forward begins eligibility process
United States-based footballer Trevor Islam is on the verge of joining the Bangladesh national football team, as officials confirm that his birth registration has already been completed and passport processing is currently underway.
The 21-year-old forward, known as Trevor Islam, is expected to follow in the footsteps of several diaspora players such as Jamal Bhuyan, Tariq Kazi, Hamza Choudhury, and Shamit Som in representing Bangladesh internationally.
According to Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) vice-president Fahad Karim, discussions regarding Trevor began in December last year, while formal documentation work was completed on 18 February this year. He also confirmed that the player has shown strong interest in wearing the red and green jersey.
Trevor is currently studying at Stanford University and competing in the NCAA collegiate football system in the United States. BFF officials believe his presence could significantly strengthen Bangladesh’s attacking line, particularly in the forward position.
Technical committee members have reportedly expressed optimism about his potential contribution, stating that his inclusion could add quality and depth to the national squad.
However, there remains uncertainty over his availability for upcoming international fixtures, including the 2026 SAFF Championship, due to academic commitments. Despite this, the federation is continuing efforts to complete his passport process within the next month.
Officials have stated that the federation is prepared to welcome him as soon as he becomes fully eligible and available for national duty.
