In a troubling incident on the night of December 13, 2025, a Bangladesh Navy ship allegedly entered Indian waters and collided with an Indian fishing boat, sinking it off the coast of South 24 Parganas in the Bay of Bengal. The boat, named ‘FB Parmita Dash’, was carrying 16 fishermen when it was struck by the Bangladesh Navy vessel, resulting in five fishermen going missing.

According to reports, the fishing boat was on a routine trip to the sea for fishing when the attack occurred near the international maritime boundary. The collision took place during the night, with the Bangladesh Navy vessel allegedly switching off its lights to enter Indian waters unnoticed.

After the incident, nearby boats from Kakdwip managed to rescue 11 of the fishermen from the sunken boat, while the remaining five are still missing. The fishing boat had departed from Namkhana for its fishing expedition, and it is claimed that the attack occurred while they were fishing near the international waters.

Indian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with the Indian Coast Guard and local police already beginning their probe. However, questions have been raised about why the Bangladesh Navy ship left the area without attempting to rescue the stranded fishermen or arrest those involved in the attack.

The incident has sparked a heated debate between both nations, with some reports suggesting that the fishing boat had crossed into Bangladesh’s territorial waters, although this has not been confirmed. The ongoing investigation aims to clarify the circumstances of this troubling event.
