Brown University Shooting Suspect Found Dead After Manhunt

The Chronify

Authorities have confirmed that the suspect in the Brown University mass shooting was found dead in a New Hampshire storage facility. Officials say he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, ending a multi-day search.

The man suspected of carrying out a deadly mass shooting at Brown University has been found dead, law enforcement officials confirmed Thursday. Claudio Manuel Neves-Valente, a 48-year-old Portuguese national and former Brown University student, was discovered in a storage unit in Salem, New Hampshire, where he apparently died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound during the ongoing manhunt.

The attack on Brown University occurred on December 13, 2025, when the gunman opened fire inside a classroom building on the campus in Providence, Rhode Island, killing two students and injuring multiple others. Investigators later linked Neves-Valente to a separate fatal shooting of MIT professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro in Brookline, Massachusetts, which took place two days after the Brown incident.

Police say Neves-Valente used a rental car with altered plates, which helped them trace his movements and ultimately locate him. Authorities have stated there are no other suspects in connection with either incident, but motives behind the shootings remain under investigation.

Officials have indicated that the threat to the public has ended with the suspect’s death, and investigations are continuing to understand the full circumstances surrounding the attacks.
