Bangladesh has officially launched e-passport services at its embassy in Libya to ease passport-related services for expatriates. Applications, biometric data collection and passport delivery will now be completed directly at the mission.
Bangladesh on Saturday formally launched e-passport services at its embassy in Libya, expanding secure and modern consular facilities for Bangladeshi expatriates living in the country and neighbouring regions, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The inauguration ceremony was organised by the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya and attended as chief guest by the embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires, Kazi Asif Ahmed.
Md Jasim Uddin, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Lieutenant Colonel Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Deputy Project Director of the e-Passport and Automated Border Control Management Project, attended the event as special guests, according to a press release.
The programme, moderated by the embassy’s Counsellor (Labour) Md Aminur Rahman, began with recitation from the Holy Quran.
Addressing the event, Chargé d’Affaires Kazi Asif Ahmed said the launch marked a major milestone for Bangladeshi expatriates in Libya, many of whom had faced long delays in passport issuance and renewal.
“With the introduction of this service, applications for e-passports, biometric data collection and passport distribution will now be completed at the embassy,” he said, adding that the move would make services more accessible, efficient and secure.
He noted that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted and modern services for Bangladesh citizens living abroad.
Expatriates present at the ceremony welcomed the long-awaited service, saying it would reduce hardship, improve legal protection and enhance overall consular service delivery.
With this launch, Libya becomes Bangladesh’s 71st mission offering e-passport services, allowing expatriates under the embassy’s jurisdiction to access faster, safer and technologically advanced passport facilities.
