U.S. President Donald Trump has widened travel bans and restrictions, adding 20 more countries to the list. The move includes both full bans and partial entry limitations, citing national security and screening concerns.
U.S. President Donald Trump has expanded travel bans and entry restrictions to 20 additional countries, intensifying his administration’s immigration and border control strategy. The updated policy follows earlier restrictions on 19 countries and is set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
The expanded ban includes full restrictions on citizens of:
Individuals holding travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority
In addition to full bans, partial travel restrictions have been added for travelers from:
Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Dominica, Gabon, The Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Tonga, Zambia
The administration said the policy targets countries with weak security vetting, high visa overstays, and insufficient cooperation on information-sharing. Certain categories of travelers — including lawful permanent residents, existing visa holders, diplomats, and athletes — are exempt from the restrictions.
The expanded ban has triggered debates internationally, with critics arguing it unfairly targets broad populations based on nationality rather than specific security threats, while supporters applaud the focus on strengthening border security measures.
