U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled an ambitious plan to construct a new fleet of advanced naval vessels known as “Trump-class” battleships, signaling a major push to expand and modernize U.S. sea power.
Speaking in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said the proposed ships would be larger, faster, and “100 times more powerful” than existing warships. The initiative would begin with the construction of two battleships, forming the foundation of what he described as an expanded “Golden Fleet.”
According to Trump, the project would eventually grow to include 20 to 25 vessels, designed to cement U.S. naval dominance and deter global adversaries. While technical specifications and funding details were not immediately disclosed, the announcement aligns with Trump’s long-standing emphasis on military expansion and defense modernization.
Defense analysts note that the proposal would require significant congressional approval and budgetary commitments, and questions remain over how the new battleships would fit into the U.S. Navy’s current strategy, which has increasingly focused on aircraft carriers, submarines, and unmanned systems.
The plan has already sparked debate among military experts and lawmakers over cost, feasibility, and strategic necessity, with further details expected in the coming months.
