45 Technical Problems Identified in Dhaka Metro; AC Failures and Water Leakage Common
Dhaka's much-awaited metro system is facing significant technical issues that have hampered smooth operations. From ticketing malfunctions to water leakage inside stations, the Metro system has encountered 45 types of issues that raise concerns about its long-term viability.
As per a recent report from the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the city's metro system, which connects Uttara to Motijheel, is struggling with severe technical deficiencies. These include faulty automated ticketing systems, malfunctioning air-conditioning units, and widespread water leakage inside stations. The DMTCL has found 10 types of flaws in signal and communication work, 16 in electrical systems, 10 in construction and infrastructure, and 9 in train and system-related functions.
In a 63-page document detailing these issues, the DMTCL has communicated with contractors and consultants to address the concerns. However, many problems persist despite multiple notices. The company has also raised concerns over substandard materials being used by contractors, with several critical issues unresolved.
