A ship carrying more than 57,000 tonnes of wheat from the United States has reached Bangladesh under a government-to-government agreement, reinforcing efforts to ensure food security and market stability.
A vessel carrying 57,003 tonnes of wheat from the United States has arrived at the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port, the Ministry of Food announced on Monday (January 19).
According to a press release, Bangladesh has been importing wheat from the United States on a government-to-government (G2G) basis. Under the G2G-02 agreement, a total of 220,000 tonnes of wheat is scheduled to be imported.
The newly arrived shipment, transported by the vessel MV Clipper Isadora, marks the second consignment under this agreement. Of the total cargo, 34,320 tonnes will be unloaded at Chittagong Port, while the remaining 22,443 tonnes will be transported and unloaded at Mongla Port.
The ministry said the sample testing process of the wheat has already begun onboard the vessel. Once testing is completed, authorities will take necessary measures to ensure the wheat is unloaded swiftly and efficiently.
Earlier, the first shipment of 56,890 tonnes of wheat arrived in Bangladesh from the United States as part of the same agreement.
Officials said the continued arrival of wheat consignments is expected to strengthen national food reserves and help maintain price stability in the domestic market, particularly amid rising global food supply concerns.
