His arrest follows a case filed under the Cyber Security Act 2023.

Shrishant Roy, a student at BUET, has been jailed after a series of disturbing revelations emerged, including his confession of sexual assault and derogatory online posts. The case came to light after he admitted to raping a classmate and harassing Muslim women, particularly those wearing hijabs, through public transport and social media.

Roy had been using the pseudonym "Weekly Service 923" to post religiously provocative content targeting Muslim women and Islam. His writings, which included obscene and offensive remarks, were shared over several months and led to widespread protests by fellow students.

After his arrest, Roy was remanded for three days and subsequently presented in court, where he was ordered to be detained. His bail request was denied, and the case has sparked nationwide outrage, highlighting issues of sexual harassment and online hate speech. The investigation continues under the Cyber Security Act.
