Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has stressed the need to accelerate technological progress, warning that Bangladesh risks falling far behind if it fails to keep pace with rapid global change. He said technology will shape the future and must become the country’s core focus.
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus today emphasized the urgent need to gear up technological advancement in Bangladesh to cope with a rapidly changing global landscape, describing the sector as the key driver of the future.
“The coming world will be fundamentally different. Things we cannot imagine today will become reality,” he said, adding that if Bangladesh fails to align with the global technological momentum, it risks falling dangerously behind.
The chief adviser made the remarks while addressing the inaugural session of the ‘Digital Device and Innovation Expo 2026’ at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
The four-day expo, themed ‘Bangladesh to the World’, is jointly organised by the ICT Division, Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) and Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS), and will continue until January 31.
Professor Yunus said that although Bangladesh may appear to be progressing alongside other countries, it is in fact lagging behind in thinking, action and preparedness due to insufficient focus on the ICT sector.
“This is the core sector. The future of the world will be shaped from here,” he said, noting that while traditional sectors will continue to exist, technology will remain the driving force influencing all others.
Calling for immediate preparation, he urged policymakers to abandon traditional mindsets and adopt forward-looking strategies to strengthen the sector.
Referring to the expo, the chief adviser said the country’s future would depend on the kind of conversations, visions and institutional frameworks developed through such platforms.
