Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep concern over the attack on the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star.
Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has spoken by telephone with the editors of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star following what he described as a brutal and unwarranted attack on the offices of the two media organizations.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s Office, Dr Yunus expressed deep sympathy for Motiur Rahman, editor of Prothom Alo, and Mahfuz Anam, editor of The Daily Star. He said he was deeply distressed by the attack on their institutions and journalists, stressing that such violence undermines the foundations of free and independent media.
The chief adviser noted that the incident represents a serious obstacle to the country’s democratic progress and the practice of independent journalism. He reaffirmed that the government stands firmly beside the affected media outlets during this difficult time.
During the conversation, Dr Yunus assured the editors of full security for themselves and their organizations and pledged all necessary support. He also conveyed his intention to meet the editors in person in the near future.
