Death Toll from Earthquake Rises to 10 in Bangladesh

The death toll from the 5.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Bangladesh on November 20 has risen to 10, with casualties reported in several districts, including the capital, Dhaka. The earthquake originated in Madhabdi, Narsingdi, and caused widespread damage across the country.
In the capital’s Banshal area, the railing of a five-story building collapsed, killing three pedestrians. Among the deceased were a father-son duo, Haji Abdul Rahim (47) and Mehrab Hossain Rimon (13), along with Rafy, a student of the 52nd batch at Salimullah Medical College, who was with his mother at the time. His mother, Nusrat, is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries.
In Mugdapara, Dhaka, the earthquake caused the railing of a construction site to collapse, claiming the life of a 50-year-old security guard named Maksud.
In Narayanganj, the quake caused a wall to collapse on a tin-shed house in Rupganj, killing one-year-old Fatima. Her mother, Kulsum Begum, and neighbor Jesmin Begum were injured in the incident.
The earthquake also affected Narsingdi, where a house’s sunshade collapsed, killing a 10-year-old child named Omar and his father Delwar Hossain Ujjal, who later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Other casualties from Narsingdi included 75-year-old Kazem Ali Bhuiyan, who was killed when the wall of a mud house collapsed in Malita, and 65-year-old Nasir Uddin, who was also killed in a similar collapse in Kaziarchar. In Shibpur’s Joynagar Union, 45-year-old Forkan Miah died after his home was struck by the earthquake.
Authorities have confirmed the tragic deaths and are continuing their investigation into the full extent of the damage caused by the tremors.
