The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a temporary ban on the use of all types of fireworks, firecrackers, and lanterns across the capital. The restriction, effective from 6:00 pm tonight, Tuesday, February 3, 2026, aims to preserve the sanctity of the holy night and prevent accidents.
In a directive issued by DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali, several strict measures have been put in place to ensure a peaceful observance of Shab-e-Barat. The ban is scheduled to remain in effect for 12 hours, ending at 6:00 am on Wednesday, February 4.

Shab-e-Barat, observed on the 15th night of the Arabic month of Shaban, is a significant occasion in the Islamic calendar when Muslims offer special prayers and seek divine forgiveness. The DMP Commissioner emphasized that these restrictions are essential to maintain public order and prevent the disturbance of those engaged in prayer and religious rituals.
Law enforcement agencies have been placed on high alert, with additional personnel deployed to ensure compliance and prevent any public nuisance. The DMP has requested full cooperation from city residents to uphold the spiritual dignity of the night.
