The incident occurred on the evening of May 13, when Shammo and his friends witnessed one of the suspects, Kobutor Rabbi, carrying a taser at Mukto Mancho. Rabbi attempted to flee but was caught by Shammo near Gol Pukur, where a confrontation ensued. The situation escalated when Rabbi called in reinforcements, leading to a violent scuffle.
According to police investigations, Mehedi Hasan, the leader of the drug-peddling gang, was armed with a knife and taser, which he used to stab Shammo in the thigh, critically injuring him. Despite being rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Shammo succumbed to his injuries.
Seven individuals have been charged in connection with the murder, including Mehedi Hasan, Md Rabbi (alias Kobutor Rabbi), and Md Ripon (alias Akash). Four other suspects—Sujon Sarkar, Tamim Hawlader, Samrat Mollik, and Palash Sardar—have been cleared due to lack of evidence. The investigation continues as authorities seek justice for Shammo’s death, which has sparked outrage among Dhaka University students, who are demanding accountability from university officials.
