Dhaka University’s Syndicate has framed charges against four Blue Panel teachers, all known as Awami League–affiliated teacher leaders. The move initiates a formal process that could ultimately lead to their dismissal.
The Syndicate of Dhaka University, the institution’s highest policy-making body, has framed charges against four teachers, setting in motion disciplinary proceedings that may result in their removal from service.
Dhaka University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed confirmed the development on Thursday night, saying the teachers have been served with show-cause notices and asked to respond within a week.
“Charges have been framed against them, and they will be asked to explain why these charges have been brought and why they should not be dismissed,” Saifuddin Ahmed told reporters around 9:40pm.
He clarified that the teachers have not yet been dismissed. “They will respond to the show-cause notices, and based on their replies, an investigation will proceed,” he added.
The four teachers facing charges are Professor Zinat Huda, Professor AKM Jamal Uddin, Professor Sadeka Halim, and Professor Mashiur Rahman. All are prominent figures of the Blue Panel, a teachers’ platform known for its affiliation with the Awami League.
The decision was taken at a Syndicate meeting held on Thursday, chaired by Vice Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan.
In the same meeting, the Syndicate also advanced a proposal to rename Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Hall as Shaheed Osman Hadi Hall and Captain Sitara Parvin Hall, respectively.
Saifuddin Ahmed said the Syndicate does not have the authority to make the final decision on renaming. “The proposal has been forwarded to the Senate. One step of the process has been completed, and the final decision will be taken by the Senate,” he said.
The developments come amid heightened scrutiny of campus politics and administrative reforms at Dhaka University, drawing significant attention from both academic circles and political observers.
