Gold Price Hits Record High in Bangladesh
The Chronify
Gold prices in Bangladesh have surged to an all-time high as Bajus raised rates by Tk4,199 per bhori, effective from Tuesday. The price hike reflects rising local market prices of pure (tejabi) gold.
Gold prices in Bangladesh reached a historic peak after the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) announced a sharp increase in rates, effective from Tuesday morning.
Under the revised pricing, 22-carat gold will now sell at Tk232,055 per bhori (11.664 grams)—the highest price ever recorded in the country’s jewellery market. Bajus confirmed the decision late Monday night, citing a rise in the price of pure gold in the local market and overall market conditions.

According to the new price structure:
-21-carat gold: Tk221,499 per bhori
-18-carat gold: Tk189,890 per bhori
-Traditional method gold: Tk156,881 per bhori
In addition to these prices, buyers will have to pay 5% VAT, as mandated by the government, along with a minimum 6% making charge set by Bajus. The making charge, however, may vary depending on the design, craftsmanship and quality of the jewellery.
Bajus last revised gold prices on January 10, when the price of 22-carat gold was increased by Tk1,050 to Tk227,856 per bhori. With the latest hike, gold prices have now been adjusted six times this year—increased on four occasions and reduced twice.
In 2025, gold prices were revised a total of 93 times, including 64 increases and 29 reductions, highlighting continued volatility in the precious metals market.
Silver prices were also revised upward alongside gold. Under the new rates:
-22-carat silver: Tk5,949 per bhori (up Tk408)
-21-carat silver: Tk5,715 per bhori
-18-carat silver: Tk4,899 per bhori
-Traditional method silver: Tk3,674 per bhori
This marks the fourth adjustment of silver prices so far this year, with prices increased twice and reduced twice. In 2025, silver prices were revised 13 times, including 10 hikes and three cuts.
Market insiders say the repeated price adjustments reflect fluctuations in global bullion markets, exchange rates, and local supply-demand dynamics.
