Government Launches Emergency Response Center and Financial Assistance for Earthquake Victims

The government has activated an Emergency Response Center under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief following the recent earthquake. The center, which started operating today, is in constant communication with local authorities to collect preliminary damage reports on a district-by-district basis.

 

According to initial reports from Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Narsingdi, and Magura districts, 10 people have been confirmed dead and 461 injured due to the earthquake. In Dhaka, particularly in the city area, 4 deaths and 59 injuries have been reported. Narayanganj recorded 1 death and 18 injuries, while Narsingdi has suffered 5 deaths and 110 injuries. Gazipur saw 252 injuries, and 22 people were injured in Magura.

 

The government has already begun disbursing financial assistance as part of the initial relief efforts. Families of the deceased are receiving 25,000 BDT each, and injured individuals are being provided 15,000 BDT each through district administrations.

 

The Ministry is working closely with the district administrations to coordinate ongoing relief activities. Preliminary assessments are underway to determine the full extent of the damage caused by the earthquake. Once the assessment is complete, more detailed information will be provided.
