The Ministry of Agriculture has announced the procurement of 50,000 metric tonnes of potatoes, setting a minimum purchase price of Tk 22 per kilogram at cold storage and mill gates.

The Government of Bangladesh has decided to purchase 50,000 metric tonnes of potatoes to ensure stable supply and prevent market volatility ahead of the peak demand season. According to an official handout, the Ministry of Agriculture will preserve the potatoes in cold storages and make them available in the local markets during the months of October and November.

The initiative aims to stabilize consumer prices and support farmers by guaranteeing a minimum procurement price. Authorities confirmed that the government will pay Tk 22 per kilogram for potatoes at cold storages and mill gates.

Officials from the Agriculture Ministry stated that this step is part of a broader effort to balance supply and demand during the upcoming months, when market pressure typically intensifies. The stockpiling is also expected to safeguard against sudden shortages and price hikes, benefiting both producers and consumers alike.
