The interim government has condemned the violent incident in Sherpur that led to the death of a Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami activist. Authorities have pledged firm legal action and heightened security ahead of the national election.
The interim government has expressed deep concern over the violent incident in Sherpur on Wednesday that resulted in the death of a political activist of Jamaat-e-Islami and vowed to take legal action against those responsible.
“Any loss of life linked to violence is unacceptable and deeply regrettable,” said a statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing on Thursday.
With the national election only two weeks away, the government urged all political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami, to demonstrate responsible leadership and ensure restraint among their supporters.
“Violence, intimidation, and loss of life have no place in a democratic process,” the statement said.
It added that police in Sherpur have already launched an investigation into the clashes and the killing, and security in the district has been strengthened.
“All perpetrators will be brought to justice,” the statement said.
The government also called on all parties, leaders, and campaigners to maintain peace, respect the rule of law, and engage voters through peaceful and constructive means.
Stressing the importance of calm and discipline during the election period, the statement said the future of the nation depends on democratic conduct from all sides.
“The interim government remains committed to ensuring a peaceful, free, and fair election,” it added.
