Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has issued a stern directive to law enforcement to prosecute anyone violating the electoral code of conduct "without any delay."

During a high-level law and order meeting at the Mymensingh City Corporation yesterday, February 2, 2026, the Home Adviser underscored the government's commitment to a neutral and festive voting environment. He made it clear that "no individual, regardless of their status, would be allowed to break election laws" and instructed officials to strictly enforce the Representation of the People (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.

Key directives from the meeting include:
  • Zero Tolerance for Code Violations: Immediate legal action must be taken against candidates or supporters who breach campaign rules, specifically regarding the recent ban on posters and plastic materials.
  • Neutrality in Personnel: The Adviser ordered that any official known to be controversial, partisan, or involved in irregularities during past elections must be excluded from election duties this year.
  • Foolproof Security: To prevent the seizing of polling centers, law enforcers will utilize body-worn cameras and CCTV coverage at all stations. Drones will also be deployed for aerial surveillance.
  • The "Surakhya App" 2026: A major focus was placed on the Nirbachan Surakhya App (Election Protection App) developed by the NTMC. This tool allows for real-time reporting of incidents directly to a central monitoring cell, ensuring a rapid response to emergencies.

The Adviser also touched upon recent regional tensions, describing a deadly clash in Jhenaigati, Sherpur, as "regrettable" and ordering precautionary measures to prevent similar violence as the February 12 poll date nears. He reassured the public that there is no credible threat to journalists and that the nationwide drive to recover illegal firearms is yielding "good results."
