Home Ministry Suspends Khurijer Jor, Biswa Ijtema-2026 at Tongi Ahead of Elections
The Home Ministry has ordered a ban on all gatherings at the Tongi Bishwa Ijtema Maidan. The decision aims to ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming national election and referendum.
The Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to prevent all gatherings at the Tongi Bishwa Ijtema Maidan, suspending both the Khurijer Jor scheduled for January 2–4 and the Biswa Ijtema-2026 planned for January 22–24.
The decision was taken to ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of the 13th National Parliament election and the Referendum-2026, according to an official notice issued on Tuesday night. The notice was signed by Md Anwar Parvez, Deputy Secretary of the Home Ministry.
The ministry has instructed law enforcement agencies to take all necessary measures to enforce the restriction and ensure full compliance with the directive. Authorities said the suspension is temporary and strictly related to maintaining public order and security during the election period.
No further details were provided on when gatherings at the Tongi Bishwa Ijtema Maidan may resume following the completion of the electoral process.
