Housewife Gives Birth to Five Babies at Once in Gazipur
A rare and remarkable medical case in Kapasia sees a mother and all five newborns reported to be in stable condition.
A housewife in Gazipur’s Kapasia upazila has given birth to five babies at once in a rare multiple birth case, according to hospital officials.
The woman, identified as Masuma Begum, wife of Kajal Mia from Digabo village, delivered the babies at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (PG Hospital) in Dhaka after being admitted with labor pains on Sunday (April 5).
Under the close supervision of specialist doctors, she gave birth to five newborns—three boys and two girls.
Medical staff confirmed that both the mother and all five babies are in stable condition following the delivery.
Doctors noted that such multiple births often carry significant health risks for both mother and infants. However, in this case, the outcome has been described as unusually positive and stable.
The combined weight of the newborns is approximately 8 kilograms, with each baby weighing between 1.4 kg and 1.5 kg, which doctors say is a reassuring sign for such a rare delivery.
The incident has drawn significant local attention, though the family has chosen not to speak publicly at this stage, citing privacy concerns.
Medical officials added that the mother and newborns have since been discharged after receiving necessary care and are now back home under medical observation.
