Jaishankar Hands India’s Condolence Message to Tarique Rahman Over Khaleda Zia’s Death

India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar conveyed India’s condolence message to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. The gesture came during Jaishankar’s visit to Dhaka to attend the funeral of former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
S Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister, on Wednesday handed over a message of condolence from the government of India to Tarique Rahman, Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), following the death of former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
The condolence message was delivered at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, according to a post shared by the BNP media cell on social media. The gesture was described as a mark of respect from India to the bereaved family and the people of Bangladesh.
Dr Jaishankar arrived in Dhaka earlier on Wednesday at around 11:30am to represent the government and people of India at Khaleda Zia’s funeral. A senior official told UNB that the visit was a brief one, undertaken at short notice to pay final respects.
Senior officials from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pranay Verma, India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, were present at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to receive the Indian minister.
India has expressed deep condolences over the passing of Khaleda Zia, with New Delhi reaffirming that her political legacy and contributions to Bangladesh and Bangladesh–India relations will continue to be remembered.
