Khaleda Zia’s Condition Remains Critical, Doctors Say
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is undergoing treatment in the ICU as her health condition remains critical. Doctors say she is passing through a highly precarious phase under close medical supervision.
The physical condition of Khaleda Zia, chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), remains critical, her personal physician AZM Zahid Hossain said on Saturday night.
Speaking to reporters outside Evercare Hospital following a meeting of the medical board, Dr Zahid said Khaleda Zia is under constant observation by doctors and is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
He explained that Khaleda Zia’s health deteriorated significantly after her admission to the hospital, prompting doctors to shift her from a cabin to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and later to the ICU. “It cannot be said that her condition has improved normally. Her physical condition is still critical, and she is going through a highly precarious moment,” Dr Zahid said.
A medical board comprising both local and foreign specialist doctors, supervised by Shahabuddin Talukder, is overseeing her treatment. Khaleda Zia has been receiving care at Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara since November 23.
Dr Zahid added that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman were present during the medical board meeting. Following the meeting, Tarique Rahman returned to his Gulshan residence.
Doctors expressed hope for a positive outcome if Khaleda Zia can overcome this critical phase with continued medical intervention.
