The Election Commission has announced the resumption of National Identity Card (NID) correction services from Sunday after a temporary suspension. The services were halted to prepare the final voter list for the upcoming parliamentary election and referendum.

The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the National Identity Card (NID) correction process will resume from Sunday.

ASM Humayun Kabir, director general of the National Identity Registration Sub-division, confirmed the decision on Thursday, stating that all types of correction activities related to NID information will be reopened from that day.

Earlier, the EC had suspended NID correction services after 4:00pm on November 24 to complete preparations for the voter list ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum. During the suspension period, only limited correction services were available for urgent cases through applications submitted directly to the EC’s NID sub-division.

According to the commission, the total number of registered voters in the country currently stands at 127,695,183. This includes 64,814,907 male voters, 62,879,042 female voters, and 1,234 third-gender voters. The final voter list includes citizens who turned 18 years old by October 31 this year.

For the upcoming parliamentary election, the EC has published a final list of 42,761 polling centres nationwide. These centres will have 115,137 booths for male voters and 129,602 booths for female voters, bringing the total number of booths to 244,649.

As both the referendum and the parliamentary election will be held on the same day, the commission has decided to increase the number of secret voting booths to ensure a smooth voting process.

Voting is scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 12, from 7:30am to 4:30pm across the country.
