As winter sets in across the country, the chill has arrived early in Panchagarh’s Tentulia, located at the foothills of the Himalayas. While the days are sunny and warm, the nights have been marked by a sharp drop in temperature, creating an unusual weather pattern of hot days and cold nights. Locals have reported that venturing outside at night without warm clothing has become a challenge.

On Thursday, November 20, at 9:00 AM, Tentulia recorded the country’s lowest temperature of 13.9°C. The humidity in the air was 61%, with a light mist in the morning that gave way to sunshine shortly after. However, as night fell, the fog returned, and the temperature dropped again.

By noon on the same day, the temperature rose to 17°C, with fluctuations between 16-17°C throughout the day. According to the Tentulia Meteorological Office, the temperature in the region has been fluctuating between 16-17°C, with the highest temperatures ranging from 30-31°C until the afternoon. They predict that in the first week of December, temperatures will drop further, and a mild cold wave may sweep through the northern region.

The rapid change in temperature has had a significant impact on public health. Hospitals in the district and surrounding areas have seen a rise in patients suffering from winter-related illnesses. Children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues are particularly affected, with increasing cases of cold, cough, fever, pneumonia, and allergies.

Doctors have warned that the drastic temperature swings put extra stress on the body and urged the public to take necessary precautions. Locals in Tentulia mentioned that the cold arrived early this year, with warm sunshine during the day followed by intense cold at night causing quick illnesses.

Jitendranath Roy, the acting officer-in-charge of the Tentulia Weather Observation Center, said, "The temperature is decreasing rapidly at the onset of winter. By noon, the temperature fluctuates between 16 and 17°C, with the highest rising to 30-31°C. The situation may change further in the beginning of December."
