Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said the upcoming election and referendum will serve as a public verdict against years of repression, adding that a ‘Yes’ vote will pave the way for good governance and accountability.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Friday said the people of Bangladesh would show a “red card against tyranny” by voting ‘Yes’ in the forthcoming national elections and referendum.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Brahmanbaria Circuit House this morning.

Rejecting any notion of reconciliation with the Awami League, Shafiqul Alam said there has been no expression of regret or apology from its leaders. “Have you heard any apology from the Awami League? Just yesterday, a former Awami League minister mocked the blood of the martyrs. We see no remorse among them,” he said.

He added that those responsible for killings and repression would not be accommodated in society. “Nobody will give them a place in our society. The murderers will have a place in jail,” he asserted.

Referring to the referendum, Shafiqul Alam said the people’s ‘Yes’ vote would be a decisive rejection of authoritarian politics. “They will show a red card against the politics of disappearances and murders that continued for 16 years. Through a ‘Yes’ vote, the path to good governance will be created,” he said.

Expressing optimism about the democratic process, the press secretary said he hoped the upcoming election would be free, fair, peaceful and festive, reflecting the people’s aspiration for change and accountable governance.
