Rizwana for expanding use of satellite to bring benefits, ensure accountability

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Sunday said the multidimensional use of satellite technology must be expanded to improve good governance, natural resource management and disaster preparedness in Bangladesh.

Speaking as the chief guest at a business strategic dialogue organised by Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) at a city hotel, Rizwana said effective satellite use would help ensure transparency, curb corruption and reduce crime.

“When the real benefits of satellite use are realized, accountability will be ensured, corruption will decline and crime will be reduced,” she said.

Highlighting the growing importance of satellite technology, the adviser said satellites are now indispensable for national security, capacity building, water resource management and urban planning. She described the expanded application of satellite services as “a demand of the time.”

Rizwana stressed the need to enhance the institutional and technical capacity of BSCL and underscored the importance of stronger inter-ministerial coordination to fully harness satellite-based solutions.

Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb attended the event as a special guest, while Abdun Naser Khan delivered the welcome address.

The programme was also addressed by Md Anwar Hossain, Abu Tahir Muhammad Zaber, and Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian.

BSCL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Imadur Rahman presented the keynote paper, outlining the company’s strategic vision and future roadmap for satellite services in Bangladesh.
