At the 25th ICMAB Convocation 2026 in Dhaka, Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan stressed the need for a transparent and politically independent financial system to ensure accountability in public spending and effective use of audit reports.
Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Friday emphasized the urgent need to establish a functional financial system free from political influence and corruption to ensure rational, transparent, and accountable public expenditure.
She made the remarks while addressing the 25th convocation of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) as the chief guest at Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the capital.
Rizwana Hasan, who also serves as adviser to the ministries of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, and Water Resources, said audit reports should not be treated as mere formalities. Rather, their primary objective is to provide practical recommendations to improve account management and strengthen the overall financial system.
“Audit reports are meant to ensure the proper use of public funds, enhance efficiency, and significantly reduce the scope for corruption,” she said, adding that ignoring audit findings weakens institutional accountability and undermines good governance.
She further stressed that effective public fund management is essential for sustainable development and public trust, noting that professional accountants have a crucial role to play in safeguarding financial discipline in both public and private sectors.
The convocation was addressed by Jean Bouquot, president of the International Federation of Accountants, as the convocation speaker. He highlighted the global importance of professional ethics, transparency, and strong financial governance systems.
ICMAB President Mahtab Uddin Ahmed chaired the ceremony, which was attended by past presidents, council members, fellow and associate members, and guests from government and corporate sectors.
At the event, Syeda Rizwana Hasan also distributed certificates among the successful graduates. Around 300 fellow and associate members formally received their certificates, marking a significant milestone in their professional careers.
