Saudia to Summon Cricketer Shakib Al Hasan in Share Market Scam Investigation

The Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned cricketer Shakib Al Hasan on November 26, 2025, in connection with a share market manipulation case involving the embezzlement of approximately 257 crores (around USD 25.7 million). The renowned cricketer, who is currently overseas, is expected to appear before the ACC officials for questioning regarding his alleged involvement in the illegal activities.

This move follows an official statement released on November 20 by Akhtar Hossain, Director of the ACC. Hossain confirmed that the charges against Shakib stem from his participation in a scheme that defrauded investors and manipulated share market transactions.

Meanwhile, the ACC is also investigating other notable cases, including that of Dilip Kumar Agarwala, the Managing Director of Diamond World, who was arrested in September 2024 on charges of gold and diamond smuggling and money laundering. Agarwala is accused of accumulating over 112 crore taka in illicit assets, with a further 755 crore taka under suspicion for illegal transactions.

In addition, the ACC has raised concerns about Agarwala's international assets, with reports suggesting the presence of jewellery showrooms in Kolkata and Australia, alongside other unexplained wealth. The Commission has issued letters to several government agencies, including land offices, across the country to trace these assets.

Further investigations have also led to the filing of a case against Shafiq Ahmed Siddique, former teacher at Dhaka University and husband of Sheikh Rehana, for accumulating over 8.65 crore taka in illicit wealth.

These developments underscore the ACC’s ongoing efforts to tackle corruption and illicit financial activities in Bangladesh, with a focus on both domestic and international operations. The cases are part of a broader crackdown on corruption that has continued to garner significant attention from law enforcement and the public alike.
