Authorities have strengthened security on 25 December across Bangladesh, especially in capital Dhaka, ahead of Christmas Day. The government says all necessary measures are in place to ensure peaceful and festive celebrations for the Christian community.

Security has been tightened nationwide, particularly in the capital, ahead of Christmas Day, the largest religious festival of the Christian community, to ensure peaceful and uninterrupted celebrations.

Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said the government has taken all necessary steps so that Christians can celebrate Christmas with due religious fervor and in a festive environment. He noted that adequate security arrangements have already been put in place at churches across the country.

According to the Home Adviser, sensitive and posh areas of Dhaka, including Gulshan and Banani, have been brought under heightened security coverage to prevent any untoward incidents. Law enforcement agencies have also increased routine patrols on key roads across the capital to make the security arrangements foolproof.

He added that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has been instructed to take special measures to improve traffic management during the festive period.

Meanwhile, the DMP has imposed a temporary ban on fireworks, crackers, lanterns, and gas balloons in the capital. According to a police notification, the ban will remain in force from 6:00 pm on December 24, 2025, to 6:00 am on December 26, 2025, in the interest of public safety and law and order.

DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has sought the cooperation of city residents, emphasizing that adherence to the directives will help ensure a calm, secure, and dignified celebration of Christmas across Dhaka.
