Two young men, Ashikur and Moshaed, were killed by gunfire near the Bangladesh-India border in the Sylhet region.

Two young men, Ashikur (19) and Moshaed (22), were tragically killed by gunfire at the Sylhet border in the Companyganj upazila on Friday, December 19, 2025. Ashikur's body was retrieved by his family, while Moshaed's body remains in Indian territory.

The incident occurred around 12 PM on Friday at the Dhamdama border area in North Ranikhai Union. Ashikur, a resident of Turung village in the eastern part of Dhamdama, and Moshaed, from the same village, were reportedly collecting firewood near the Indian border when the shooting took place.

According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police sources, the two men crossed into the Indian area near the 1260 main pillar, 600 yards inside India, in Perihat, where they were fired upon by Khasi militants. Ashikur was killed immediately, and his body was retrieved by his relatives. His body is currently at the Companyganj Upazila Health Complex.

Meanwhile, Moshaed was reportedly shot and killed by the Border Security Force (BSF) near the Radhan area on the Indian side of the border. However, the exact details of his death remain unclear. Local sources suggest he may have been shot by the BSF, but this information has not been confirmed.

BGB has confirmed that the body of Moshaed is being held at the Toka camp by the BSF, who informed the BGB via phone, saying, "One of your men has been killed." The BGB is in negotiations with the BSF to recover the body.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companyganj Police Station, Shafiqul Islam, confirmed the deaths and said the exact details of who fired the shots—whether it was the Khasi militants or the BSF—remain uncertain. The authorities are continuing efforts to retrieve Moshaed's body from India.

This tragic incident has sparked tensions along the border, with both Bangladesh and Indian authorities investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
