BTV should not become a tool for any political interest: Mahfuz Alam
The Chronify
Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuz Alam said that BTV is being made autonomous as part of the ongoing institutional reforms. Care is being taken to ensure that BTV does not become a tool for any political party or political interest.
On Thursday morning (13 November), at the award ceremony for the winners of Bangladesh Television’s “Notun Kuri” competition held at the Shapla Hall of the Chief Adviser’s Office, Md. Mahfuz Alam spoke about these initiatives.
Md. Mahfuz Alam said that BTV will introduce new reality shows and programs featuring contestants. These initiatives will continue in the future. From now on, BTV will belong to everyone representing all parties and all people.
The Information Adviser stated that the journey of the new “Notun Kuri” has begun in a new Bangladesh. Today’s event is not just a cultural competition but a new horizon for the younger generation of Bangladesh. A unique platform has been created to showcase the dreams, creativity, and talents of the youth of post-July revolutionary Bangladesh. The new “Notun Kuri” contestants have been selected through a transparent and fair process from across the country. Regardless of religion, race, region, or economic status, these children and teenagers will carry the flag of the new Bangladesh. Through their talent and hard work, they will advance our culture, society, and civilization, and build the inclusive, just Bangladesh envisioned by the martyrs and injured of July.
Md. Mahfuz Alam added that for the past 15 years, Bangladesh has been restricted to a single language, culture, and heritage. However, Bangladesh is a country of many cultures, multiple heritages, and numerous languages. For a long time, we could not fully enjoy or appreciate this diversity. Many marginalized communities, who had been excluded, were left out of the cultural sphere, which allowed a kind of cultural authoritarianism to take root.
He said that from now on, everyone should have space in our cultural framework. Regardless of caste, religion, or race, our culture will be a source of strength. Inclusion, diversity, and the union of humanity will define our civilization. Drawing on the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Bengal, and guided by the Chief Adviser, we are now embarking on the journey of a new Bangladesh.
Congratulating the winners of the 2025 competition, he said that those who have reached this stage from various remote regions of Bangladesh deserve applause. The talent, dedication, and creativity of the new “Notun Kuri” contestants inspire us all. Over the past two to three weeks, through various social media platforms, people have rediscovered the culture and heritage of Bangladesh. We hope that you will continue your creative journey, reach new heights, and contribute to the pride of the nation. May the journey that began with the July Mass Uprising continue, and may the journey of the new Bangladesh progress without interruption.
