Hajj agencies must finalize housing arrangements by Jan 28: Ministry

The Religious Affairs Ministry has warned that failure to complete accommodation contracts in Makkah and Madinah by January 28 could prevent pilgrims from performing Hajj. The directive applies to all private lead agencies handling Bangladeshi pilgrims this year.
The Religious Affairs Ministry has instructed all lead Hajj agencies to complete rental arrangements for pilgrim accommodation in Makkah and Madinah by January 28, as a significant number of agencies have yet to finalise housing for this year’s Hajj pilgrims.
In a letter sent to all Hajj agencies on January 24, the ministry warned that failure to complete accommodation contracts within the stipulated deadline would result in pilgrims being unable to perform Hajj.
According to the letter, Bangladeshi pilgrims will perform Hajj this year under both government and private management systems. Under the private arrangement, a total of 73,935 pilgrims are scheduled to travel to Saudi Arabia through 30 lead agencies.
The ministry noted that the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has repeatedly urged agencies to complete accommodation arrangements within the required timeframe. During a virtual meeting held on January 23, the Director General of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah expressed serious dissatisfaction over the slow progress in securing housing for Bangladeshi pilgrims in both Makkah and Madinah.
The ministry said accommodation arrangements for all pilgrims travelling under the government management system have already been completed.
It urged private lead agencies to ensure 100 percent completion of housing arrangements for their pilgrims in Makkah and Madinah by January 28, with coordinating agencies providing full support where necessary.
The letter further warned that failure to comply with the deadline would have consequences for the concerned agencies’ eligibility to participate in future Hajj operations.
